The new Infrastructure Plan allows for the introduction of important improvements in urban services, like:
The modernization of telecommunication networks such as the fiber-optics network, allowing free competition among telecommunication providers and services. Furthermore, they are equipped with a completely operable duct system that allows operators to improve and extend the services without working in the public roadway. The Wi-Fi Barcelona project aims to provide Wi-Fi coverage in all 22@Barcelona public spaces. 22@Barcelona is also collaborating on PIT-CAT, a project researching new communication technologies.
The new central heating and cooling system (District Heating & Cooling, DH&C), which is 40% more efficient than traditional heating and cooling mechanisms.
The new electrical network, which guarantees a quality power supply, provides five times more power than the original network.
The new pneumatic refuse and waste collection systems, recycling centers and waste management center make the district more ecologically efficient.
Additionally, the Plan fosters the installation of solar panels.
