The Rovira i Virgili University (URV) has joined the Council of Barcelona Digital, a technology center specializing in ICT R&D&i. With this agreement, the URV will take on a more prominent role in the council and the Barcelona Digital Technology Center will improve its dynamization model and excellence in applied research, on which it works closely with the university.
The URV’s incorporation on the Barcelona Digital governing body is the latest in a series of institutions of higher learning, which have included universities like the Pompeu Fabra, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and ESADE. This is the result of the high quality research they carry out, fostering research institutes and innovation centers, which are key to technology transfer. The URV works to encourage the research activities of all their members, particularly in strengthening the various research groups and improving the quality and scope of their scientific production.
The rector of the university, Francesc Xavier Grau, will represent the university on the council, giving them the opportunity to reinforce and boost Barcelona Digital’s growth in applied research and innovation. Their contribution will aid in research excellence, as the transfer to the business fabric is one of Barcelona Digital’s priorities. This area has seen important growth over the past two years. Currently, Barcelona Digital is working on 24 national and international R&D&i projects.
In addition to its research, the URV has increased the number of degrees it offers over the past years, now totaling nearly 50 in a number of disciplines, with more than 12,000 students enrolled. These figures show their commitment to becoming a cutting-edge institution in providing quality knowledge through new technology and moving students into the workforce. |
