The Managing Director of
22@Barcelona, Mr.
Josep Miquel Piqué, was invited to the conference to present the district as a success story in the dialogue between city and creativity and innovation. This was followed by the speech by the Chairman of
Barcelona Design Centre,
Pau Herrera, who highlighted the news of the Barcelona Design Innovation Cluster and the work being carried out by the BCD to foster design and creativity in the business and institutional fabric of Barcelona.
Culture is a sector that all institutions have recognised may become a driving force for development and that has a unique setting in the city for its activities. Today, culture is one of the central elements of urban policies. Cities have added the cultural sector to their growth horizon and city councils are promoting creative policies aimed at favouring the cultural industries and the competitiveness of cities.
It should be remembered that the development of creative activity is a basic element in the solidity and development of a city.
The conference brought together professionals from cultural management and allowed the exchange of thoughts and practices on cultural action in the local arena, with debates on the impact and relationships of culture and the cultural industries on the area, the economy and the competitiveness of cities. The aim is to promote the central role of culture in local policies and encourage the development of innovation in the local cultural agenda.
The conference brought together professionals from cultural management, professionals linked to the cultural development of cities (areas of urban planning and economic protection) and, finally, researchers and teachers of cultural and teaching policies.
