Barcelona and 8 more cities from Europe, Asia and the United States join forces with Living Labs Global in a challenge to find innovative solutions to major societal problems by opening competition among international solution-, technology- and service providers. The nine winners of the Living Labs Global Showcase Award will be invited to pilot their solutions in these cities.

What is the Living Labs Global Showcase Award?

The nine winners will be able to test the effectiveness of new solutions and to offer a first step for innovative providers to enter new markets.

Living Labs Global, a non-profit association to promote digital service innovation in cities, is working with the cities of Chicago, Taipei, Barcelona, Stockholm, Eindhoven, Sant Cugat, Caceres and La Selva to choose the companies and organizations that have developed digital solutions that add high value to users in cities around the world.

These global cities represent around 12 million citizens from Europe, the US and Asia and call for solutions that can solve some of their most pressing challenges. Challenges include social inclusion, digital tourism, water management, urban service automation, smart living, environmental solutions, citizen participation, healthcare and mobility. Submissions follow the format of the Living Labs Global Showcase, which already today presents more than 230 international service innovations.

Nine Categories for the Award are being presented in partnership with communities that seek to identify the best solutions to meet their strategic challenges.

About Living Labs Global

Living Labs Global is a non-profit association based in Copenhagen (Denmark) with the objective to promote innovation in services in cities. Today, the global market for innovative solutions to healthcare, learning, transport, social inclusion, tourism and other services in cities is obscured by lack of knowledge about international experiences, technologies and new business ideas. Living Labs Global strives to collect and present solutions that make cities more attractive, inclusive, efficient and diverse in our Living Labs Global Showcase. Participation is free of charge, providing recognition, visibility and new project opportunities.

How do I enter my solution into the Living Labs Global Showcase Award?

To enter your solution, simply register online.
Then create showcases (profiles) for each of your individual solutions by completing the one-page template, using the simple 3 question format: challenge, solutions, results and target markets.  Once you submit your showcase, it is reviewed by the Living Labs Global editorial review team and published to the Living Labs Global Showcase portal.  All submissions are automatically considered in all city categories.

Award Timeline

Submissions to qualify for the Living Labs Global Showcase Award can be submitted until the 1st of December 2009.  A shortlist of the top 5 Showcases will be presented by the juries on December 15th 2009.  Award winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony on February 14th 2010 in Barcelona, the eve of the Mobile World Congress.
