Since the start of the 22@Urban Lab project in 2008, a number of innovative initiatives have been run in the 22@Barcelona district in various fields. The following is a brief description of the pilot projects that have been trialled to date: Implementation of 12 outdoor public street lighting points
Eco Digital with LED technology in the 22@ district (6 on either side
of the street). The lighting points will be fitted with presence,
vibration, temperature, humidity, sound and pollution sensors, GSM
aerials, Wifi Mesh access point and webcam for video surveillance
functions.
Implementation of 2 charging points for electric cars
and management and analysis of the system from a centralised control
point in Barcelona City Council. |

Pilot program to read gas, electricity and water meters telematically in more than 150 housing units in 3 buildings developed by the Municipal Housing Agency. This program is a long-term test of a system that collects information on utility use instantly and transmits it to a central headquarters, thus eliminating the need for estimated readings and for residents or authorized meter readers to collect the information manually.

| Sustainability mobility project (1st phase)
- Rollout of the necessary infrastructure for installing charging points for electric vehicles (pylons).
- Pilot trial of 2 electrically and solar powered motorbikes (MotoSolar
vehicle) for the Guardia Urbana municipal police force. Two-seater
otorbike, 60 Km autonomy, 70 Km/h speed.

| Traffic lights adapted for the blind at all crossings in 22@Barcelona Remote
control to activate the traffic lights and so reduce the constant noise
of traffic lights. They include an automatic volume adjustment device
that will allow sound signals to be emitted according to the external
environmental noise.
The system emits different types of sounds:
orientation sound signal, crossing sound signal and end of crossing
sound signal. Both the crossing sound signal and the end of crossing
sound signal are emitted by the departure and arrival post
simultaneously, allowing the user to locate the route of the crossings
exactly (start, finish). |

|
| Traffic control cameras connected by fibre optics with the public roads central offices to control traffic in real time. There will also be:
- Whorls (system for monitoring the number of vehicles that use a street) to monitor traffic light needs.
- Traffic lights connected by fibre optics to be able to increase or
reduce the frequency of the green light according to needs at the time. |
|
|
| Fibre optics in homes The
aim of this pilot project is to install a fibre optics network (FTTH)
inside homes in Poblenou to multiply the bandwidth that the traditional
system with copper wiring is able to provide. |
|
|
| Bicycle lanes A number of
types of bicycle lanes have been tested in the 22@ district to find out
which of the pilot projects contributed to improved circulation and
safety for cyclists while not preventing traffic from running normally. |
