Miraveo develops the technology necessary to create
Spontaneous Near Area Networks, which allow users to create social networks using mobile terminals like phones, PDAs and laptops.
Miraveo was born out of technology developed and patented by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (
UPC), which is a shareholder in the company. The company.s management, technical and engineering teams are based in Barcelona, but the business development department is located in
Silicon Valley.
Mario Nemirovsky, CEO, is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who has started up a number of technology companies and is currently a researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (
BSC).
Jorge García Vidal, CTO, is the head of the Computer Architecture department at the UPC. Miraveo advisors include prestigious researchers from
UC Berkeley,
Georgia Tech, and
Cisco systems, as well as a former partner at
Accel Partners, which is one of the biggest investors in new technology in Silicon Valley and London.
Miraveo technology allows SNANs to be created for free anywhere you want (on the street, at the mall, on the metro, at a bar, etc.) because it doesn.t depend on existing infrastructure and does not charge a connection fee: the devices communicate directly with each other without using a mobile operator.s network or WLAN wi-fi permissions.
Spontaneous Near Area Networks allow users to communicate with those around them, buy or sell products and services, chat with people in a bar, exchange documents, stream music on the metro or participate in mobile games on their university campus. Users can join a SNAN using any device with wi-fi capabilities and create both private and public groups with other users.
