Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) or Voice Recognition is the area of Artificial Intelligence that aims to allow humans and computers to interact verbally. The main problem an ASR system poses is how to make a group of inputs that come from different areas of knowledge (acoustics, phonetics, phonology, lexis, syntax, semantics and pragmatics) work together, despite the inevitable ambiguities, uncertainties and errors, in order to obtain an acceptable interpretation of the acoustic message received.

In this session we will present real examples where speech recognition systems have been implanted, sharing the experience of two companies. Mr. Francesc Massana, Director of Business Development at Verbio Technologies, and Mr. Miguel Ángel Marcos, Director of Professional Services and Support at Presence Technologies, will present the case studies. We will also hear from Mr. José B. Mariño, Department head at Barcelona.s UPC University, who has been researching speech technology for 25 years.
