Mayor of Shanghai visits 22@Barcelona

Accompanied by the mayor of Barcelona Jordi Hereu, Zheng got a first-hand look at the project’s progress
 
Barcelona, September 1, 2008.- Mayor of Shanghai, Han Zheng, accompanied by the mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, visited the 22@Barcelona district this afternoon, where he got a first-hand look at the different projects currently being developed, making this the city’s innovation district.
 
During his visit the Mayor of Shanghai, leading a delegation of 50 people, was also accompanied by president of 22@Barcelona and third deputy mayor of the Barcelona City Council, Jordi William Carnes, managing director of 22@Barcelona, Josep Miquel Piqué, head architect for the Barcelona City Council, Oriol Clos, and director of Corporate Development for BSM, Ferran Ferrer.
 
The visit began at 6:00 pm in the Forum’s Model Room, where Josep Miquel Piqué presented the innovation district and the project’s latest progress. They also showed the Mayor of Shanghai the model created for the 2004 Forum of Cultures, showing all the changes in the district.
 
Afterwards, the Mayor of Shanghai and his delegation began a tour of the most emblematic projects in the 22@Barcelona district clusters (ITC, Media, Energy, Biotech and Design). This way, he got a first-hand look at the spaces where the future Besos Campus, sponsored by b_TEC, the Health Building, and the future headquarters of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce will be located.
 
To finish up, they visited the MediaTIC area where they saw the progress of construction on the Mediatic building and the future headquarters of the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia. The Mayor of Shanghai also visited emblematic buildings in the innovation district like the Pompeu Fabra University and the Mediapro and Spanish National Radio (RNE) headquarters.
 
The mayor of Shanghai, Han Zheng, visited the 22@Barcelona district as part of his trip to Barcelona in order to get to know this area, motivated by the fact that Barcelona will take part in a universal exposition in Shanghai on habitable cities in 2010, where the urban regenerations projects in Ciutat Vella and 22@Barcelona will be shown.
