It is with great pleasure that we inform you about the “Innovative Cities for the Next Generation Conference” which will be held in Barcelona the 26th of June 2008.
The aim of this conference is to give a general overview about The City of the Future and share the knowledge acquired by means of some relevant projects working on this topic.
At the same time the results of the ICING project will be presented. It is also remarkable to say that the event will include some prototype demonstrations of innovative services.
The ICING Project has been managed by three major European cities: Barcelona, Dublin and Helsinki. ICING has been deployed in actual city test beds to apply integrated mobile and web 2.0 technologies to the implementation of City strategies and the achievement of a range of existing city priorities - resulting in a flexible, innovative, and effective way of working.
The ICING platform demonstrates increased transparency and opportunities to influence the decision making process, and uses flexible structures and communication technologies to enhance a shared understanding of city issues and community building in cities. In this way, it contributes towards the engagement of citizens with their public representatives and moves towards a reduction in the democratic deficit.
