22@Barcelona managing director, Josep Miquel Piqué, participates in the International Conference on Innovative Clusters in Korea.

Barcelona, May 20, 2008.- Today, the managing director of 22@Barcelona, Josep Miquel Piqué, presented the 22@Barcelona district as a model for urban clusters to participants at the International Conference on Innovative Clusters, which is currently taking place in the Korean city of Daejeon.

More than 200 representatives from governments, businesses, universities and technology parks from around the world, as well as ambassadors and foreign diplomats in Korea, are participating in this conference.

This international conference analyzes how certain science and technology parks like 22@Barcelona are leading local innovation systems in many countries. Participants analyze globalization in innovative clusters and the future of these clusters, since national competitiveness depends on scientific and technological competitiveness in knowledge-based economies.

This event reaffirms 22@Barcelona’s place as the innovation district of Barcelona and helps attract new foreign companies to the area in order to make the city a platform for international innovation.
