The Study of Economic Activity in the 22@ Barcelona District, carried out by the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) and the University of Barcelona (UB), was presented on January 23, 2008.

The study shows manifest economic dynamism in Poblenou: since 2000, when the 22@Barcelona project began, more than 1,000 new companies have settled in the district, creating almost 32,000 new jobs. This positive data makes the 22@Barcelona project one of the main motors of the city’s growth.

On one hand, the study points to an important growth in knowledge-related activities (@activities) in the 22@Barcelona district, as more than half of the companies established in the past years are dedicated to knowledge-intensive activities. On the other hand, it also alludes to the importance of R&D activities and talent in the new companies that have been created in Poblenou.

Finally, taking into account the location of new companies in the district, we can assert that in 22@Barcelona the economy clearly follows urban-planning advances.
