The 22@Barcelona Educational Project internship program puts vocational training students from the neighbourhood of Sant Martí in contact with 22@Barcelona businesses so they can do internships with companies in the area.
Following are the general conditions of the internship contracts.

TIME CONSIDERATIONS
Daily and weekly hours
During the school year (from the 2nd fortnight of September to the 1st fortnight of June) students may work a maximum of 4 hours per day. They mustn’t do more than 20 h/week.

In the summer (2nd fortnight of June, July and the 1st fortnight of September) students may work a maximum of 7 hours per day. They mustn’t do more than 35h/week.

Regarding August, although in theory it is allowed, we don’t recommend having students work since it is harder to find interns under these conditions.

Weekdays
Students may do their internship a maximum of 5 days per week, from Monday to Saturday.

Sunday is not considered a day students may do their internship. If this were necessary, special permission would have to be solicited and it is not always granted.

Timetable
In theory, the internship must take place within the standard institutional timetable, which considers 8am to 2pm to be morning and 2pm to 10pm to be afternoon. So, the internships must take place between 8am and 10pm. If it were necessary to work outside these hours special permission would have to be solicited.

Length of time
The internships will last more or less depending on the number of hours per day and days per week a student works. In any case, each student must complete the required hours, which range from 300 to 450 depending on their year of studies.

FORMALS ASPECTS
Internship contract
The internships will be formalized using an internship contract, which should not be confused with a labour contract.

Monetary compensation
Since there are no labour obligations, there is no regulated monetary compensation. However, due to the nature of the internship, we recommend giving the interns some kind of compensation, which can be declared as per diems, transportation allowances or whatever the company considers appropriate.

Holidays
Interns are not workers. They are students at the educational centre. As such, they are entitled to take off the designated school holidays.

However, if the company and the intern reach an agreement at some point for the student to work for the company during school holidays (e.g. Easter week), possibly under special conditions for the student, the educational centre won’t oppose and will count any hours worked as part of the internship.

Insurance
The internship contract includes the governmental school insurance. Apart from this, other complementary measures may be taken if deemed necessary.

Tutors
Apart from their tutor at the educational centre, students must also have a tutor in the company.

This tutor should preferably be a person who will physically accompany the student throughout their internship with the company. If this is not possible it should at least be the direct supervisor of the person who will accompany the intern. It goes without saying that the tutor should be someone who knows the trade being practiced in the internship.

The tutor will follow the intern’s progress in the company and will report periodically to the educational centre. At the end of the internship, both the in-company tutor and the tutor from the educational centre will evaluate the student
