Barcelona has resituated itself at the forefront of the fashion sector in the first stages of the new year. On one hand, the event 080 Barcelona Fashion opened its doors, offering a platform which heightens visibility for independent fashion designers. Also, the urban contemporary fashion fair The Brandery celebrated its second edition. Organised by the Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council, this year’s edition has attracted 160 exhibitors, half of which came from abroad. Lastly, the directors of the cluster Branding & Retail have recently visited Paris on a market research trip with the intention of designing a new type of boutique which would be implemented in Barcelona, increasing sales for Catalonian vendors. 22@Barcelona not only participated in this visit, but also facilitated the access of all companies in the district to these fashion events.
As far as the arrival of new companies to the district, the flow has remained steady for the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010. Some of these companies include the environmental consultancy Amphos 21, la The Spanish Electrotechnical Association, the Catalonian Electrotechnical Foundation, and even a new hotel, the GBB 4 Barcelona.

The Media-TIC building opens its doors this spring and will host institutes of the UOCas well as the headquarters of Barcelona Digital.
The Media-TIC, promoted by the Consorci de la Zona Franca and 22@, was designed to serve as a meeting point for businesses and institutions from the audiovisual and IT sectors in Barcelona. The building is located on the corner of Sancho de Àvila and Roc Boronat, in the IT and Media cluster of the 22@ district.
With over 14,000 m2 of spaces for business, research and training, The Media-TIC building gives priority to the intercommunication of spaces, as well as the interrelation with the 22@Barcelona district where it’s located, and the development of synergies, which is necessary for a cluster area. The Universitat Oberta de Catalunyaoccupy the 5,000 m2 located on the top three floors, while the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3)the eLearn Center, and the Barcelona Digital Technological Centre will also relocate to the building.
The building is an extremely personal creation by architect Enric Ruiz-Geli, and its attractive covering has a functional purpose as an instrument for regulating light and temperature which avoids the leakage of 114 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, as well as providing savings of 20% in acclimatisation.

- 22@Urban Lab: 22@Barcelona is currently developing pilot projects to test various products and solutions that may provide improvements in the lives of the citizens of Barcelona and the management of municipal services. This project allows companies to try out innovative projects in a real environment, giving them the opportunity to be commercialised after having proven their feasibility on a larger scale in Barcelona or other cities throughout the world.

The Spanish Electrotechnical Association which this year celebrates its 80th anniversary, and the Catalan Electrotechnical Foundation have established an office at 22@Barcelona, in carrer de Pamplona 92-94, and anticipate opening for business on 1 February 2010.

Environmental consultancy Amphos21 has set up its offices in the 22@Barcelona district, in the Med I building, owned by GE Real Estate Iberia, so joining the energy cluster in the district.

The new 4-star hotel opened in January is in carrer Doctor Trueta, 164. It has 142 rooms along with a number of meeting rooms perfect for training sessions or conferences, with a capacity of up to 140 delegates.

Mobile Premier Awards: Today, Mobile Monday will host the Mobile Premier Awards at the Petit Palau de la Música in recognition of the most innovative projects in mobile telephone start-ups from around the world. With the goal of supporting all initiatives that help develop innovation and technology, once again 22@Barcelona is sponsoring this annual event, which will coincide with the Mobile World Congress.

III Conferència Anual de les Plataformes Tecnològiques de Recerca Biològica:
The event is organized by the Spanish Technological Platform of Innovative Medicines, Nanomed Spain, the Spanish Federation of Healthcare Technology Companies, and the collaboration of Biocat, Farmaindustria, Fenin y IMIM Foundation. This year’s program has the challenge to foster private-public collaboration.
