The Barcelona Media Innovation Center is currently under construction in the 22@Barcelona district, but is already functioning in a provisional space in the Imagina building. This center focuses on promoting, developing and carrying out R&D&i projects for companies in the audiovisual sector. Close by is the Barcelona Digital Technology Center, also in a provisional location, which aims to help develop the Information Society and grow the ICT sector, serving both companies in this sector and those that use information and communication technologies in their business activities.

The Energy Research Institute of Catalonia (IREC), whose main focus is technological research and development in the energy field in order to make the current energy model more sustainable, will be located on the Besos Inter-University Campus.

Both centers coexist, or will coexist for short periods of time, with private centers like the Orange R&D Center, from the telecommunications provider, the ALSTOM Center for Technology Research and Development, which does research in the urban and interurban rail transport sector, and Telefónica’s new telecommunications R&D&i center, which will move to the district in the near future.
